A sewing workshop above the old haberdashery
Learn to sew in a room full offriendly people.
Bobbinwick is a small, bright room with eight sewing tables, a big cutting board and a kettle that is always warm. We teach beginners, help menders and make space for anyone who wants to finish that half-made dress.

Classes this term
Every class is taught by Maud or Iris, who have been sewing in this room for years.
Complete beginners
First stitches
Thread a machine, sew a straight line, and go home with a drawstring bag you made yourself.
Some sewing
Make a skirt
Read a simple pattern, cut your fabric with confidence, and fit an elastic waist that sits just right.
Anyone
Mend and patch
Bring the jeans with the hole in the knee. Learn darning, visible patches and a tidy hand-sewn hem.
How a class works
Pick a seat
There are only eight tables, so every class stays small and nobody waits long for help.
Borrow everything
Machines, scissors, pins and thread are all here. You only need to bring yourself and a cup.
Take it home
You leave each class with something finished, and a little card of notes for next time.
“I came to fix one button. Two years later I make all my own shirts.”
Come up the stairs
We are on the first floor of 14 Spindle Row, above the old haberdashery. Ring the brass bell and someone will come down to open the door.
